. cupertino a u.s. marine is a victim of a shooting. the carb was hit, he -- car was hit, he was not hit. ktvu's ken pritchett is live with how the sherriff's department is searching for the shooter. >> reporter: you can see highway 85. it was at 1:00 p.m. when the officer heard a noise, his back window shattered. he realized his car was shot, that led to a investigation and a shut down of highway 85 with many questions unanswered. >> reporter: police wouldn't identify which marine was driving this car. shattered windows. you see a car with three bullet holes in the drive side doors. >> he gets alerted, notices there is a pop from his window. pulls over and quickly discovers that he has been shot at. more than once, multiple times. >> reporter: to answer the questions investigators shut down interstate 85. this is where the car was hit. the search was on for evidence. as you can see from news chopper 2 traffic was at stand still for an hour as investigators paced the freeway. while it is unclear where the shots came from the sherriff's department does not believe the driver was targeted becaus
attack. >>> ktvu's alex sadvige has been looking at this with security experts and he tells us what he's learned. >> reporter: this is a day to re-examine your school's plan. in fact, it wasn't long ago when the lock down plan they have here at this district was put to the test. earlier this year there were reports of an armed man here on the campus of east avenue middle school. their job is to keep students safe. and today leaders of the liver mother valley joint school district are taking a hard look at how they would respond to a scenario like the one that took place in connecticut. >> i think we're doing everything we can but everyone everything you can is not enough. after this is done we ask, what could they have done and are we doing those things already. >> reporter: chris van schaack tells me administrators will try to learn from this event. the district already does regular lock down drills to prepare for a shooter on campus and other emergencies. >> we don't take any chances if there's ever a doubt. if we ever think there's someone on campus. announcements are made, kids are
you know what it dash this is the street -- what it is. -- is the offramp. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> well, the victim of a hit and run in the south bay has died. it happened yesterday in san jose. ktvu's janine de la vega has been there since 4:30 this morning talking to people who say they know the dangers in the area. janine? >> reporter: well, dave this intersection quinnby road, the traffic is picking up. there are a lot of pedestrians in the area at that time when this happened. police say around 5:45 last night a man was crossing the intersection struck him and -- and was struck. his identify city not being released until his next of skin notified. police are looking for anyone who saw anything. police say it's disappointing that the driver acted so callous. >> it's sad that we have to -- you know, you have to obey the laws when you cross the street. obey the laws. >> reporter: we don't know if. victim was jaywalking or -- we don't know if the victim was jaywalking or was on the sidewalk. the speed limit on the road here is 40 miles an hour. we're waiting for a call

. live in san leandro, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> 7:03. san francisco police investigating a bizarre case that is now a homicide. a man and woman found bound and gagged right in the middle of the street. now the man has died. ktvu's allie rasmus live at the bayview police station. you have the latest information. good morning, allie. >> reporter: good morning, dave. there's still a lot of unanswered questions about how this happened. police are hoping more witnesses do come forward. they need the public's help with this case. it was around 8:30 last night when a resident called the police on brussels street. they saw a man and woman gagged in the middle of the street. the man was unconscious. the woman, semiconscious. the police weren't able to tell us if they were stabbed, shot or beaten. the man died from his injuries. one of the big questions is to figure out where this crime happened. did it occur where the couple were found or were they just dropped off there after they were assaulted. police canvassed the neighbor gathering information. and police are asking anyone wh
where children were sleeping. ktvu's janine de la vega is in san jose and spoke to the children's father. good morning, janine. >> reporter: the father told me his family has not slept much but any are breathing a sigh of relief. their little girl was just brought home from the hospital. this is after a truck ran off the road. you can see where the tire marks are here and it ran off the road and plowed down a fence there and smashed into a bedroom. police say the driver of the truck traveling eastbound on taylor veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into an apartment at the villa apartments on 23rd street. now, here's a look at the damage inside. the truck crashed into a room where an 8-year-old boy was sleeping and then a room where a 2-year-old girl was screaming. >> my baby's mother has a lot of scars because of the glass. but fortunately, my baby was no hit with no glass or anything. so she doesn't have any really physical damage but she did hit the dresser really hard. >> reporter: this is 2-year-old nalia. she didn't have a scratch on her and is doing okay. police say the driver

francisco allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 news. >>> we will turn now to other news. new this morning i want to tell you about a rescue along the side of a by area freeway that happened after a couple crashed their car. that car veered off interstate 880 around 1:30 this morning. it got tangled up in bushes and trees along the fence line. investigators still don't know what went wrong. >> witness described the vehicle suddenly looking as if exiting the freeway. >> police say the car hit the fence at full freeway speed. we don't know the extent of the injuries but authorities say the woman inside that car was able to talk to police. however, the man who was driving suffered a head injury and was not able to communicate with his rescuers. >>> it was a wet and soggy saturday. more rain is on the way for the next few days. the storm also brought cold temperatures to many parts of the bay. and holiday shoppers had to pull out their umbrellas, hats, and coats. san jose workers at an emergency shelter say dozens of people filled their beds because of the cold weather. the rain also caused delays up
